B9 Shipping has been created in response to the emerging crisis in shipping. Emissions from shipping account for some 4% of global totals - exceeding that created by many developed nations including the UK, Germany and Canada. Because of its international nature measuring and monitoring shipping emissions has proven to be challenging.
The shipping sector, generally, has failed to identify the significant growth opportunities afforded by the global shift to a low carbon economy. B9's pedigree in the environmental sector allows us to see greener horizons, bluer seas and to think more creatively about our collective low carbon future.
B9 Shipping has long been working on identifying innovative, practical, low carbon, affordable, commercially viable proven solutions to create sailing motor coasters for use in European waters, to assist small island economies adapt to and mitigate against climate change and to service the world market for zero emission small cargo ships. We estimate the market for these ships exceeds 10,000 vessels over time.
Most of our project solutions come from UK based innovators. B9 Shipping will create jobs in design, development and manufacturing.
We are collaborating with academic institutes to identify leading edge solutions in design, materials and logistics.
We will create new, sustainable jobs in currently declining maritime areas of the UK - often old ship building regions - where there is capacity to build a new generation of carbon free B9 Ships.
B9's deep social commitment will ensure rewarding jobs will be available for a new generation of seafarers who will share in the success of their ships.
B9 Ships demonstrate the potential of embracing a commercially viable carbon free future to deliver clean shipping solutions for a cleaner planet. To read more about B9 Shipping's approach read the Marine Propulsion paper recently presented to the Royal Institute of Naval Architects ampongst others.
